Confession time. People will be tuning in to the Super Bowl LVI for the trailers and commercials.
You heard that right. This is a time-honored tradition that gives studios, streaming services, and networks the biggest opportunity to showcase their biggest releases. Think of it as an opportunity to use the game’s high ratings to boost ticket and subscription sales.
The Super Bowl fixture between the Bengals and the Rams? Pfft. The real crème de la crème is the Super Bowl LVI trailers that we just can’t wait to replay again and again.
So what can we expect to see as the Rams butt head with the Bengals? Here we go.
Black Adam
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been wanting to get into superhero movies for a while. It’s no wonder then that Black Adam is a dream role come true for the wrestler-turned-movie-star.
Will The Rock do justice to one of DCEU’s baddest anti-heroes out there? We can’t wait to see him lay waste to any who dare look at him the wrong way. After all, Black Adam is infamous for ripping things out:
Moon Knight
Is Moon Knight the supernatural answer to The Batman? Marvel has gotten it right so far with its numerous Disney+ series, setting up the stage for a new era in Marvel Cinematic Universe. From its first trailer, Moon Knight seems poised to be another classic.
We just can’t wait to see Oscar Isaac bring the fictional anti-hero Marc Spector to life. But it’s Ethan Hawke’s villain as a cult leader that we’re totally looking forward to. Hopefully the Super Bowl LVI trailer will continue to sustain our hype for the series.
Super Bowl 2022 trailer:
The Lost City
Reclusive fiction author Loretta (Sandra Bullock) partners up with Alan (Channing Tatum), a cover model with a serious case of the hero complex on a treasure hunt. The Lost City already sounds like a rom-com with potential.
But wait. We didn’t even get to the part where Bullock gets kidnapped by Daniel Radcliffe (yes, Harry Potter himself) to get his hands on the fabled long-lost treasure himself. We don’t know about you but this has all the makings of a fun adventure movie:
Stranger Things
They grow up so fast. The Hawkins gang is back for another round of supernatural hijinks, blood curdling horror, and another high-handed coverup courtesy of the United States government in Stranger Things season 4.
Even after 5 long years, this massive Netflix horror hit keeps us coming back for more. We can’t wait for the Super Bowl trailer to reveal more about what Eleven and her motley gang have been up to.
The Rings of Power
I miss the Wheel of Time, but hey, there’s at least another high fantasy epic to look forward to. The Lord of the Rings is getting the streaming series treatment with The Rings of Power, and it will be available on Amazon Prime Video later in the year. We’ve yet to see a proper trailer for it, but that’s what the Super Bowl is for!
While we wait for The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power at the Super Bowl, here’s an appetizing sneak peek of the characters we can expect to see in the red-hot series:
And here’s the Super Bowl teaser:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
He may be the fastest thing alive, but he’s got competition now. The sequel is setting us up for a brawl for the ages. We can’t wait for the furry blue hedgehog to show us what he’s been up to all this time.
Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwarz) is joined by Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) as they grapple with the decision of going back to their home world. But it’s the fearsome return of Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) that throws a spanner in the works. That, and the debut of a character that Sonic fans have wanted to see on the big-screen, Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba). Has Sonic finally met his match?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Super Bowl trailer is here:
Minions: The Rise of Gru
Every supervillain has a ‘tragic’ origin story. Even Gru, the lovable supervillain-turned-good-guy from the Despicable Me series of movies.
But what made this good, lovable kiddie so bad? Now we can find out in Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Jurassic World: Dominion
Oh great. Another Chris Pratt outing with dinosaurs? Thankfully, Jurassic World: Dominion leans into the power of nostalgia to make Dominion a fitting conclusion.
The epic conclusion to the Jurassic Park movies brings back Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum who are joined by Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong and more. Also, who doesn’t want to see all-new dinosaurs in the wild? Will humanity become the prey this time? We’ll find out in June.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Arrogant magician tries to change things, only to break the world. It seems like Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) has not learnt anything from his actions in Spiderman: No Way Home.
The biggest MCU movie of the year promises to break the internet, with a slew of cameos and debuts that has comic book fans awake at night. If there’s a reason to tune in to Super Bowl LVI, it is Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Will Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) manage to put the MCU back together again?
Here’s the Super Bowl trailer for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:
Nope
Jordan Peele’s critique of modern-day America in Get Out got audiences talking. And now, he promises to do that again with his follow-up Nope.
Can Peele terrify theater audiences again? We can’t wait to see more of Nope at the Super Bowl.
Nope gets the Super Bowl trailer here:
