Iran is known for pulling off a lot of absurd moves, but this time, it really outdid itself and the standards it set previously, by barring its own citizens from playing Pokémon Go.
There has been a lot of debate as to why such a move was made, but it is quite simple: Iran simply does not want its citizens to accidentally stumble across one of its many missile silos, while searching for rare Pokémon.
But it is possible that said claim could be 'blowing' things out of proportion (pun intended). Keeping this in mind, it is safe to say that 'freedom' might soon make its way to Iran (wink, wink, nudge,nudge).
Jokes apart, a proper explanation was not given regarding the ban, but BBC has reported that it is more or less due to security concerns. Seeing how people are encouraged to gallivant around looking for their new Pokémon, it usually ends up with players trespassing into other peoples' properties.
Seeing how the problem is becoming prevalent, and how a lawsuit is already being prepared in the US, it does make sense for Iran to take such a stance regarding the issue. But then again, there are better ways an issue as trivial as this can be dealt with.
There is no doubt that Pokémon Go has resulted in instances where players ended up getting robbed, or worse assaulted, but the severity of the action does not justify it.
Rather than punishing those who are responsible for such crimes, it seems as though the general population is being penalized instead. Taking this into account, it does make one realize that this is the sole reason why we can never have good things, but the struggle must go on.
That being said, Iran is the first country to have banned the game so far, which will directly or indirectly cause others to follow suit.
