Interesting Facts about Hockenheimring

– The Hockenheim circuit was built for Mercedes-Benz as a high-speed test track in 1939, they needed a place to test for the Tripoli Grand Prix.
– The first F1 race was conducted in 1970 then it was dropped for 6 years and returned in 1976 after Niki Lauda suffered horrific burns at the Nurburgring.
– Hockenheim became the home of the German Grand Prix till 2006 with only 1 race at Nurburgring in 1985.
– The layout of the track was heavily modified in 2002 with the long runs through the forest were done away.
– Since 2008 both the tracks are used alternatively every year while Nurburgring was skipped in 2015 and 2017.
