PUREVPNIndustry NewsFreedom Update: India blocked Video Sharing Sites

Breaking News:

“File sharing and P2P websites are blocked by India”

Yes this is true. The news has spread like a fire in the jungle as soon as the ban was implemented and there have been growing concerns in India over recent blocking of file sharing and other related websites for its customers on both Internet and Mobile. The action has said to be taken by DOT [Department of Telecom]. Although the action is seen to be in a bid to stop piracy in the country yet the actual reasons are still said to be unknown. Whenever these websites are accessed a message appears on the sites stating: “This site has been blocked as per instructions from Department of Telecom (DOT).” This block looks similar to the recent block in March, where Airtel and a few other ISPs had blocked access to Typepad.com, Mobango.com and Clickatell.com, redirecting subscribers to a similar landing page.

The worst part of this ban is for those video lovers who are a paid member to these sites or have already paid the annual membership fee in advance. Moreover, it is also a bad news for those who generate revenues by sharing their content through these websites. Although these websites are still accessible through some of the ISP’s but the confusion lingers on whether this ban will be applied across the board or it is just a test for something big to happen. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more developments on this story.
