PUREVPNIndustry NewsAustralia Officially Abandons Three Strike Anti-Piracy Scheme

****** Update (May 26, 2016) ******

The Three-Strikes Anti-Piracy Scheme is currently on hold until April next year after the ISPs and copyright holders were unable to reach an agreement on who would be accountable for the costs pertaining in operating such a huge project.

Signs earlier this year pointed that ISPs and Copyright holders were facing serious hurdles on reaching an agreement on who will actually pay for the Three Strikes anti-piracy scheme.

The project is now officially been dismissed. In an official letter to the Australian Media and Communications Authority, the Communications Union and respective parties have confirmed its quietus.

For over a decade, Australia has been known as a flashpoint of internet piracy. Monopolies run the country, which leads to lack of options; licit goods arrive months later after their initial launch, which led hundreds of thousands of Aussies to seek for other alternatives.

Because of this, Australians found themselves in the limelight of national and international “rights-holders” who argue that their industry is losing millions because of people downloading via unofficial services.

For those who obtain media through other means are comparatively easier to detect. This has led to “rights-holders” to put pressure on local ISPs to cooperate in the Three Strikes anti-piracy scheme.

Aussies risked being tracked for downloading their favorite content. Had they been using VPNs to protect their security and privacy, they would not be at risk. PureVPN is the pioneer VPN service which hides your identity by dedicating you an IP of another country, keeping no trace of your logs and protecting you with 256-bit military-grade encryption.

With the scheme being shelved, for now, it might be brought forward in the future if things start to heat up, again. For now, processing costs such as tracing downloaders, preparing notices, contacting them and collaborating with ISPs, is just too much of a cost to bear.

However, this does not mean that one should be relaxed about it but rather acquire services of PureVPN to ensure complete anonymity and freedom.
